Competition Fields and Game Elements

The Aerial Drone Competition has two field layouts: one for the teamwork mission and one for the autonomous flight and piloting skills missions. As an Event Partner you will need to set up both types of fields for teams to compete.

Teamwork Mission Competition Field

The teamwork mission field is approximately 20' x 20', and uses the following components:

• 1 red arch gate
• 1 blue arch gate
• 1 blackout screen
• 1 yellow keyhole gate
• 1 green keyhole gate
• 1 red landing pad
• 1 blue landing pad
• 1 red small cube
• 1 blue small cube
• Game elements (to be revealed September 7, 2023
• PVC perimeter (layout to be revealed September 7, 2023)

Piloting and Autonomous Flight Skills Competition Field

The piloting and autonomous flight skills mission field is approximately 15' x 20', uses the following components:

• 1 red arch gate
• 1 blue arch gate
• 1 blackout screen
• 1 yellow keyhole gate
• 1 green keyhole gate
• 1 red landing pad
• 1 blue landing pad
• 1 red large cube
• 1 blue large cube
• 2 programming mats*
• 3 color mats*

* Programming mats and color mats are included in the Game Element Kit, available in September 2023.

Quantity of Competition Fields Needed

Having enough competition fields are your event will ensure teams have the opportunity to complete all missions in a timely manner.  The following is a list of suggested number of fields at your event based on the number of teams attending.

Ordering Field Elements and Game Elements

• Field Element Kit: Each kit includes the field elements you need to set up ONE field (either a teamwork or skills field).
  • This kit includes the 2 arch gates, 1 blackout screen, 2 keyhole gates, 2 landing pads, and 4 cubes used on a competition field at Aerial Drone Competitions. This equipment is reused every season.
• Game Element Kit: Each kit includes the game elements for 1 teamwork field and 1 skills field. 
  • This kit includes the game elements for the 2023-2024 season that will be used on the Aerial Drone Competition Fields. These game elements will change each competition season.
• PVC Perimeter
  • Purchase this from your local hardware store to create a field perimeter.
