Coaches, parents, teachers, or other adults associated with a registered REC Foundation team are permitted to submit an Accommodation Request Form form on behalf of a student. The Accommodation Request Form is intended to help teams and families communicate their students’ unique needs to the REC Foundation to ensure that accommodations are made to serve the student in the best way possible. A request cannot fundamentally alter the character of the competition. The steps and requirements to submit a request can be found in this related article in the REC Library.
If an accommodation request has been approved, the following steps must be taken by the Primary Coach as outlined in their approval letter:
- The Primary Coach must submit a copy of the official approval letter (received from the REC Foundation) to the Event Partner (EP) at least 2 weeks in advance of the event.
- If the EP is, for any reason, unable to provide the necessary accommodation, the EP must notify the coach and the Regional Support Manager (RSM) in writing at least 1 week prior to the event to determine the best solution.
- The Primary Coach must also bring a copy of the letter to the event.
If a verbal or written accommodation request that has not been formally approved is made at an event, or an approved request is brought to an event but was not communicated to the EP before the event, the EP is not responsible or obligated to accommodate the request.
At all events, students are expected to follow the REC Foundation Code of Conduct and EPs are expected to report violations using the Code of Conduct Reporting Tools.
