International Robotics Honor Society Local Chapter Leadership

IRHS logo

Students with exceptional academic standing have the opportunity to apply for membership in a local chapter of the International Robotics Honor Society to earn accredited graduation honors for their participation in a host of high school robotics competitions. Each chapter is required to designate several adults to oversee the local chapter and its decisions.

The Administrator

Depending on where you live, the administrative level of your school may look and operate differently. For the purpose of the International Robotics Honor Society, the administrator at your school is typically a principal, assistant principal, dean, superintendent, Minister of Education, Headmaster, Headmistress, school director, etc. Essentially, the administrator is the highest level of leader or educator at the secondary school where your chapter resides.

The Chapter Advisor

Each chapter of the International Robotics Honor Society will elect an adult to serve as Chapter Advisor. The Chapter Advisor should be familiar with the robotics programs that your chapter participates in, and should regularly attend team meetings or practices and competitions. The Chapter Advisor should also be well acquainted with all of the current and potential student chapter members, and therefore be able to recommend students for membership.

This adult will be the primary point of contact between the local chapter and the IRHS, and is responsible for creating and maintaining the local chapter’s dashboard, submitting required documentation each year, and managing the day-to-day operations and activities of their chapter.

While the Chapter Advisor is not required to be a teacher or faculty member at the school where the chapter resides, they must be approved by the school's administrator and be able to maintain regular, open communication with their administration.

The Faculty Council

Each year, local chapters are responsible for electing a Faculty Council, which is made up of three adults, must include the Chapter Advisor, and may include the school administrator. The Faculty Council must meet, without student chapter members present, at least once a year to review the procedures of the chapter, select members, and consider non-selection, dismissal, other disciplinary actions, and warning cases as outlined in the IRHS Constitution.

The Faculty Council may choose to meet more often and to maintain active participation in local chapter activities, meetings, and service learning projects.
