The Robotics Education & Competition Foundation is already planning for the future of RECF robotics competitions. We are excited to share details about the 2027-2028 robotics season to help coaches and event partners plan the future of their robotics programs.
Legal Parts
In the 2027-2028 season, teams are encouraged to continue using the parts they already have.
- RECF Engage teams may build robots using the VEX IQ®, LEGO® Mindstorms® EV3, or LEGO® SPIKE™ product lines.
- RECF Achieve teams may construct robots using components from the VEX V5®, Pitsco Education TETRIX® MAX, or Robits® by AndyMark product lines.
- The VEX V5® electronics system will remain legal for RECF Achieve and RECF Inspire teams.
- RECF Inspire teams will continue to have the flexibility to construct their robots out of most commercially available materials.
Game Elements
- The RECF game design team is developing fully independent games for RECF Engage, RECF Achieve, and RECF Inspire teams to play in the 2027-2028 season.
- RECF is vetting potential partners to manufacture and distribute game elements to teams.
Fields
- RECF Engage teams and event partners will be able to continue using the VEX IQ® field perimeters.
- RECF Achieve and RECF Inspire teams and event partners will continue using a 12’ x 12’ field perimeter. Options include the AndyMark First Tech Challenge Perimeter Kit, VEX® Portable Competition Field Perimeter, and the VEX® Metal Competition Field Perimeter.
- RECF Achieve and RECF Inspire teams and event partners will use 2’x2’ foam tiles which can be acquired from a variety of sources including AndyMark and VEX®.
