The VEX IQ Robotics Competition (VIQRC) Head Referee certification course is designed to teach volunteer VIQRC referees the nuances of the VIQRC game rules and how VIQRC tournaments are run. Qualified and certified Head Referees help provide a consistent experience for participants within and across local, regional, national, and World Championship events.
The VIQRC Head Referee Certification Course takes an average of 7 hours to complete, and represents 7 hours of professional development and training when completed. VEX Robotics Competition Head Referees are expected to recertify each season.
The VIQRC Scorekeeper Referee Training Course takes an average of 4.5 hours to complete. VEX Robotics Competition Scorekeeper Referees are not required to complete certification, but are highly encouraged to certify each season.
The 2025-2026 VIQRC Head Referee training course is available at training.recf.org. For access to courses, you may need to create a new account in that system. Once you're successfully logged in, choose the VEX IQ program from the list on the home page, and select the VEX IQ Robotics Competition Head Referee Certification to begin.
