To receive the REC Foundation Pre-Engineering Certification, students must pass Fundamentals of Engineering plus a minimum of two of the eight engineering modules. To earn the Robotics Certification, students must pass the Fundamentals of Engineering and three specific modules: Computer Science/Programming, Electrical, and Mechanical. Because the Robotics Certification exceeds two modules, students who earn the Robotics Certification also earn the Pre-Engineering Certification. There is no limit to how many engineering modules a student may take beyond the ones required.
The minimum passing score for Fundamentals of Engineering and each of the eight modules is 70%; minimum requirements for each certification are detailed below. A student that fails an exam may retake the exam after waiting 20 calendar days, and may attempt an exam up to three times within one academic year. Additional state, local, and school restrictions may apply. Test administrators must sign and adhere to the REC Foundation Proctor Agreement as well as local and state laws and regulations.
All students passing the certification will receive a certificate documenting their achievement. For more information please call (903) 401-8010 or email certifications@recf.org.
Certification Scoring Requirements
Pre-Engineering Certification
- Take and pass Fundamentals of Engineering with a score of 70% or higher
- Take and pass any two modules with a score of 70% or higher
Pre-Engineering & Robotics Certifications
Note that earning the Robotics Certification will automatically include the Pre-Engineering Certification because it exceeds the requirements. The Pre-Engineering Certification is earned after the second module is completed; the Robotics Certification is earned after the third module is completed.
- Take and pass Fundamentals of Engineering with a score of 70% or higher
- Take and pass Mechanical Engineering Module with a score of 70% or higher
- Take and pass Electrical Engineering Module with a score of 70% or higher
- Take and pass Computer Science/Programming Module with a score of 70% or higher
Pre-Engineering & Robotics Certifications Multi-Year Option
Earning both certifications can be accomplished over multiple years for multi-year programs. Some common examples are listed below earning the Pre-Engineering Certification year 1 and the Robotics Certification year 2.
